Foundry UMC in Washington, DC is collecting prayer flags, and will carry them to GC2020 so the prayers can adorn the Conference session. They invite you to participate, making your prayer flag creation a part of the worship life of your community.
These instructions are for making prayer flags to embody prayers for General Conference through written word. The prayer flags will be stitched together and carried as a living witness to the 2020 General Conference. The Foundry UMC (Washington, DC) GC 2020 Witness team will use the flags to surround the plenary with these prayers as they do their work.
We invite you to make your own flags, and stitch them together into lengths of prayer flag that can be held or hung in the GC2020 space.
We encourage you to think about how to shape the prayer invitations to fit particular worship settings in your church. For example, invite people to share prayers of lament or confession during Lent. Or, invite people to write prayers of light and hope during the Easter season. These themes form easy connections with our monthly themes of Lament (March), Light (April) and Witness (May).
